It was selected by a jury of international experts with 35 other national projects among 270 applications filed. Currently, the Arronax cyclotron produces innovating radioactive elements (radioisotopes) intended for medical research. With ArronaxPlus, the Public Interest Group Arronax extends its partnership in translational research known from the production of radioisotopes to the production radioactive drugs for clinical trials and future routine use. These radioactive drugs are the key element for PET imaging (Positron Emission Tomography) and for molecular radiotherapy. PET imaging is mainly used in oncology, cardiology and neurology. Molecular radiotherapy uses antibodies targeted to malignant micro-tumours once labelled with a radioisotope capable of destroying at close range these micro-tumours. Molecular imaging and radiotherapy are the two aspects of Nuclear Medicine, which is practised today by more than 500 specialized physicians in more than 200 Nuclear Medicine units in France.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;To the historical partnership with the laboratories Subatech (physical and nuclear chemistry) and CRCNA (Cancer Research Centre of Nantes-Angers), Arronax will associate collaborations with the laboratories Ceisam (Chemistry at the Faculty of Science) and Crip (Research Preclinical Investigation Centre and of the Veterinary School Oniris in Nantes), and with the common Nuclear Medicine Department of the CHU and the Institute of Cancerology of the West (ICO). Thus, several supervising organizations are strongly involved: CNRS, Inserm, the University of Nantes, the Ecole des Mines, the Nantes University Hospital, ICO and Oniris. Il a &#233;t&#233; s&#233;lectionn&#233; par un jury d'experts internationaux avec 35 autres projets nationaux parmi 270 dossiers d&#233;pos&#233;s.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Actuellement, le cyclotron Arronax produit des &#233;l&#233;ments radioactifs innovants (radioisotopes) destin&#233;s &#224; la recherche m&#233;dicale. Avec ArronaxPlus, le Groupement d'Int&#233;r&#234;t Public Arronax &#233;tend son partenariat pour une recherche dite translationnelle allant de la production de radioisotopes jusqu'aux m&#233;dicaments radioactifs utilis&#233;s en essais cliniques puis en routine. Ces m&#233;dicaments radioactifs sont la clef &#224; la fois de l'imagerie TEP (Tomographie par Emission de Positons) et de la radioth&#233;rapie mol&#233;culaire. L'imagerie TEP concerne aussi bien la canc&#233;rologie que la cardiologie et la neurologie. La radioth&#233;rapie mol&#233;culaire utilise des anticorps cibl&#233;s sur un type de micro-tumeur maligne et marqu&#233;s par un radioisotope permettant de d&#233;truire au plus pr&#232;s ces micro-tumeurs. Imagerie et radioth&#233;rapie mol&#233;culaires sont les deux volets de la M&#233;decine Nucl&#233;aire qui est pratiqu&#233;e aujourd'hui par plus de 500 praticiens sp&#233;cialistes dans plus de 200 unit&#233;s de m&#233;decine nucl&#233;aire en France.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Au partenariat historique constitu&#233; par les laboratoires Subatech (physique et chimie nucl&#233;aire) et CRCNA (Centre de Recherche en Canc&#233;rologie de Nantes-Angers), Arronax va adjoindre des collaborations avec les laboratoires Ceisam (Chimie &#224; la Facult&#233; des sciences) et Crip (Centre de Recherche et d'Investigation Pr&#233;clinique de l'Ecole v&#233;t&#233;rinaire Oniris &#224; Nantes), et avec le D&#233;partement M&#233;decine Nucl&#233;aire commun au CHU et &#224; l'Institut de Canc&#233;rologie de l'ouest (ICO). Ainsi, plusieurs organismes de tutelle sont fortement impliqu&#233;s : le CNRS, l'Inserm, l'Universit&#233; de Nantes, l'&#201;cole des Mines, le CHU, l'ICO et Oniris. He spent years 1984 and 1985 in John Weinstein's laboratory at NIH to work on antibody-mediated radionuclide delivery.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;From 1987 to 1997, Jacques Barbet headed the Imaging and Therapeutics department of Immunotech in Marseille where he developed the Affinity Enhancement System, a pretargeting approach, which is under development in the clinic for cancer radioimmunotherapy.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Since 2001, in the Cancer Research Department in Nantes, now the Nantes-Angers Cancer Research Center, he is the leader of a research team that focuses on pretargeted radioimmunotherapy and alpha-immunotherapy. Radioimmunotherapy is now considered as a realistic possibility in antibody-delivered treatments of cancer.
